PRINCIPAL IN RESIDENCE

IDEA principals in residence (PIRs) are instructional leaders who are preparing to lead an IDEA school within one to three years.  PIRs are placed at an IDEA campus with a mentor principal to learn IDEA systems and culture as well as hone their school leadership skills.  They are responsible for coaching and developing a group of teachers at their residency campus to achieve ambitious goals with students.  They play an active role on the lead team of their residency campus while engaging in focused professional development individually and with their PIR cohort.  

Each PIR gets access to world class leadership coaching from their mentor principal, IDEA's Director of Leader Development and their fellow PIR cohort who are placed at other IDEA campuses across the Rio Grande Valley and San Antonio. 

Outcomes:

  1. Exemplary student achievement on internal and external assessments for teachers managed
  2. Students graduate IDEA and enroll in a four-year college or university
  3. Students remain enrolled at IDEA until graduation
  4. Students attend school each day
  5. Staff members continue to work at IDEA year after year and are satisfied with IDEA as an employer

  3. Managing Others to Deliver Results -- leads team to achieve measurable and ambitious results
  4. Instructional Leadership – leads instructional staff to improve their teaching quickly and measurably through observations, coaching, data conversations, and effective evaluations
  5. Problem Solving – able to synthesize, analyze, and prioritize data and opportunities to develop strategies for achieving quantifiable goals
  6. Coaching & Developing – develops team through formal and informal methods; makes professional development a top priority
  7. Communication – effectively conveys information using a variety of channels and techniques
  8. Continuous Improvement – proactively identifies opportunities to improve and consistently reflects on past actions to guide future decisions

Responsibilities:

  • Coach and manage a group of teachers at residency campus
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned
  • Attend monthly PIR trainings, coaching sessions, and school visits

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least three years of full-time teaching experience
  • At least one year of full-time instructional leadership experience (principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, etc.)
  • Proven track record of personally achieving success and of leading others
